When an earthquake occurs, an immediate strong earthquake warning is issued. To quickly determine the location, depth, and magnitude of the earthquake, the Central Meteorological Administration uses shock waves detected by a few seismic stations near the epicenter. A warning will be issued to the public immediately by the Department of Information Technology if the earthquake is predicted to have a magnitude of 4.5 or above and an intensity of 3 or higher.
With current technology, earthquakes that occur in Taiwan can issue warnings within 20 seconds on average after they occur. 70 kilometers from the epicenter is the blind zone, so people within 70 kilometers will not stop until they feel the shaking. People outside the blind zone will be warned for several to ten seconds when an alarm occurs.
We would be happy to hear from you if you have any questions or suggestions.
