Bookworm Adventures is a spelling-based adventure game for all ages. In this game, you play Lex, a humble bookworm on a quest through his library of books. Lex will face a wide range of opponents on his adventure, including mythological creatures and characters from classic literature.
Bookworm Adventures' combat mechanic is based on the deadliest of fighting arts: spelling! A grid of letter tiles is used to start each fight. With Lex, you spell out words from the available tiles; the longer the word, the more damage it does. Unlike Lex, enemies don't bother with such niceties; they simply attack, inflicting damage. Some even destroy tiles, infect them to harm Lex, or "lock" them so they can't be used.
Special tiles and items add more complications. Several special tiles have additional effects, such as reducing enemy damage, healing Lex, or doing automatic damage every turn. Crafting particularly impressive words can earn you these gem tiles. During Lex's quest, he will also earn items that will either increase his health or reduce his damage, or cause special effects. When Lex spells the name of a metal such as "TIN" or "BRONZE," the powerful Hand of Hercules does extra damage. Potions heal Lex, power up his attacks, or remove harmful conditions.
Throughout the game, you'll also play minigames that test your memory, vocabulary, and knowledge. As you complete these, you will earn bonus gems and potions to help you on your quest. As you battle your way through the world of books, you'll also unlock new minigames that you can return to whenever you want.
